K-5 Fitness

Individual Pull out began last week for the K-5ers. I met with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders in Mr. Melkonian and Ms. Hanks' Block 2 Projects. We actually started in the third week of the "Fitness Rotation Schedule".

As you may or may not know, 3-5 have switched cohort groups. This may present some confusion with which students have already been seen. Not to fear...We will make sure every student is seen.

When students are pulled to see me, they will be doing their initial fitness assessments. This involves being assessed on the five components of physical fitness. These five components are Body Compostion, Aerobic Capacity, Upper body Strength, Abdominal Strength, and Flexibility. Once I have all the data, I can begin developing their personal fitneess plans.

Also, we have put a schedule into place that will give the K-5 students an opportunity to have large group physical activity with me every other week. One Friday they will learn traditional and recreational dance, and the other Friday they will do sports and large group games - That's twice a month! Don't forget, the students also have physical acivity daily with either their math or project teacher. September's warm up activity was Yoga - The Sun Salutation. Ask your child to show you the Yoga positions he/she has learned.

Yours in fitness and health,

mm
